Varkala beach is the most popular and well known beach of the Varkala town located in the Thiruvanathapuram district of Kerala state.

Papanasham beach is the alias name of the Varkala beach. The reason of the name of Papanasham beach is due to a historical story in which a sentence says about the beach is “It is the beach that wash away sins“.
